Free admission for kids during August

To help ease the transition from the lazy, hazy days of summer to the beginning of a new school year, the Springs Preserve is offering free admission to all local kids ages 17 and under during the entire month of August.

All kids who are accompanied by an adult will be admitted free to the Springs Preserve and all of its attractions, including the hands-on exhibits in the ORIGEN Experience and its Living Collections of native animals, reptiles and invertebrates.

Regular admission fees of $9.95 for local adults and $8.95 for local seniors aged 65 and older, and students aged 18 and older, will still apply.

Summer Camps

Ready for a Summer Break adventure? How about 180 acres of adventure at the Springs Preserve? It's all there, from archaeology to animals, and from science to plants to eco-fun.

Children can take part in the following week long camps:

  • Young Naturalists Camp - July 26-30
  • Young Archaeologists Camp - August 2-6
  • Young Zoologists Camp - August 9-13

Drip Irrigation

Learn how to design a drip-irrigation system, select and assemble components and install it yourself. Experts from the SNWA Conservation Division share tips.

Class Schedule:

  • Saturday, July 31 - 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 14 - 2 to 5 p.m.
  • Saturday, Aug. 19 - 6 to 9 p.m.

VolunteerVEGAS

Volunteer your time with a local service organization between now and Aug. 1, and receive free admission to the Springs Preserve as part of the National Day of Service and Remembrance Celebration.

In conjunction with the Volunteer Center of Southern Nevada, the Springs Preserve will reward Southern Nevada residents who participate in VolunteerVEGAS with an appreciation celebration on Sept. 11. To find and register for qualifying volunteer opportunities, visit the Volunteer Center website.

Upgrade to Water Smart Landscaping

Visit the Springs Preserve on Saturday, Aug. 7 from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. for a step-by-step process for converting from grass to water-smart landscaping—and how to earn your rebate—straight from the experts from the SNWA Conservation Division.

More homeowners are realizing that desert landscaping is not only more water-efficient but more beautiful than simply having grass. Remember: It's a desert out there!

Night at the Museum

Local parents seeking a few hours to themselves will have that opportunity when the Springs Preserve hosts its first kids-only "Night at the Museum" event, Saturday, Aug. 14, from 6 to 10 p.m.

For $25 per child ages 5 to 12, parents can drop their kids off at the Springs Preserve for a safe night of entertainment including a Disney movie and a guided scavenger hunt. Guests also will have full access to all interactive games and exhibits at the Springs Preserve's ORIGEN Experience, including the outdoor animal exhibits. Snacks and a pizza dinner will be served to all kids in attendance.

Registration deadline is August 12 and only 120 spots are available for this event on a first come, first served basis.

Water Smart by Design Series

Whether you're designing a new landscape or converting an existing yard, this series shows you how to do it. Discover the seven steps of water-smart landscaping, design basics, how to select a theme and plants, and how to maintain your new landscape.
