The Las Vegas Valley
Water District is a not-for-profit agency that began providing water
to the Las Vegas Valley in 1954.
The district helped build the city's water delivery
system and now provides water to more than one million people in
Southern Nevada. The Las Vegas Valley Water District also services:
The Clark County Commissioners serve as the Water
District's board of directors. The board appoints the general
manager, who carries out day-to-day activities.
District water
rates are regulated by law and can cover only the costs of water
delivery and the maintenance and building of facilities. Rates also
are structured to encourage conservation—the more water you
use, the more you pay.
As a public utility, the district
takes its role as public servant seriously. We're involved in a
variety of community projects, most of which focus on water education
and conservation.
Southern Nevada Water Authority
The Water District is the operating agency
for the Southern Nevada Water Authority
(SNWA), a regional organization that works to secure water resources
for the valley. SNWA also provides conservation
programs for customers of member agencies.
Springs Preserve
The district also is steward to the Springs
Preserve, the historical home of Las Vegas' founding springs.
The district partnered in the development of the preserve into a cultural
resource center, featuring exhibits, trails, gardens and more.
The Gardens at the Springs
Preserve
The Gardens at the
Springs Preserve is dedicated to educating the public about
water-efficient gardening and landscaping. The eight-acre botanical Gardens at the Springs Preserve features a wide range of desert landscapes and demonstrate native and non-native desert plant life through interpretive stations and hands-on activities.
