Environmental Awareness
As a steward of the valley’s water supply, the Water District
is committed to keeping our environment clean and helping valley
residents develop a sustainable approach to our natural resources.
Our community
We support several community education, preservation and conservation
efforts. We are actively involved in protecting the Las
Vegas Wash, a natural channel that feeds into Lake Mead.
We are partnering with the community to develop
the Springs Preserve, a historical
site that will explore our region's natural and cultural history,
and educate visitors on sustainable choices for the future.
The Springs Preserve includes the Gardens,
a conservation garden that provides free, hands-on learning opportunities
to help residents create beautiful, water-efficient landscapes.
We also strive to have a low impact on areas affected
by our activities by incorporating environmentally-sensitive designs
and providing for the conservation of impacted areas.
In our workplace
The Water District is an environmentally-friendly workplace. We
go above and beyond the requirements of environmental law. Our actions
include:
- Promoting recycling within all departments and using recycled
goods
- Educating employees on the importance of recycling and waste
reduction
- Promoting pollution prevention—from battery recycling
to chemical disposal
